Clay jar situla
The clay jar situla is a product of pottery art clay design by Polona Zajc. The jar is dressed in the mantle of situla and thus resembles and preserves the beautiful figuration of a situla from Vače. It is made by hand, of black stoneware and perfectly usable for serving drinks. It is also close to the original use of the situla. The jar is fired at 1220°C, when the clay turns to stoneware. It is glazed with a suitable glaze (LOT 17) on the surfaces where it comes into contact with foodstuffs. It is 9,5 cm high and 9 cm in diameter.

Pottery art clay design by Polona Zajc has a souvenir clay jar situla in her collection. The jar was awarded the golden prize for the best culinary souvenir 2021 in Slovenia. It was used to serve water to distinguished guests at Brdo during Slovenia's EU Presidency in 2021. The souvenirs in the collection represent individual landmarks from different parts of Slovenia. Situle, as Iron Age drinking vessels, are finds from various parts of Slovenia. The situla from Vače in particular, with its beautiful figuration, is an excellent object for recreating and developing new products that represent our country, Slovenia.
Situla from Vače
The situla from Vače near Litija was excavated at the beginning of 1882, probably in the 5th century BC. Situlas were vessels made of bronze sheet, with an attached handle and decorated with relief images and ornaments. The depictions show the influence of Etruscan art. They were used in ritual celebrations and to serve drinks from. The Situla from Vače near Litija has a special place for the quality of its workmanship and its excellent preservation. The clay situla jar is dressed in the mantle of the Vače situla, thus preserving the memory of its figuration, which is also emphasised by the different colours of the glazes. It also comes closer to its original use in terms of its utility, as it is perfectly suitable for serving any beverage. Above all, it is made as a souvenir, as it represents a historical object that has been found in various forms in different parts of Slovenia and thus perfectly represents our cultural heritage.
