The unique clay sculpture Masks is a product of pottery art designed by Polona Zajc. The sculpture is made of gray clay. It is painted with various shades of glaze and fired at a temperature of 1220°C. At these temperatures, the clay turns into solid stoneware. The clay sculpture Masks is part of a trilogy of ceramic sculptures called From Identity to Freedom. It represents the reverse process of the one in which our personality, which represents us in the world, is formed and shaped.

From Identity to Freedom – Masks is one of three ceramic sculptures. The ceramic sculpture with masks represents the process in which we change different masks throughout our lives, as we have to identify with countless roles in order to survive in the system in which we live.

The trilogy of ceramic sculptures represents the process of discarding masks and unraveling all patterns. That is when freedom occurs. We no longer exist as individuals, and identity remains only as a necessity for functioning in space and time.
