Veronica of Kamnik on a cup

Kamniška Veronika on a cup is a product of pottery art clay design by Polona Zajc. It is a handmade souvenir of Kamnica Veronica. The cup is made of black stoneware, it is spun on a pottery spindle. Its interior is glazed with a transparent glaze, which is suitable for contact with food (trace mark LOT17). It is therefore suitable for household use and can be washed in the dishwasher. The exterior is glazed in different shades. The glaze transitions from a glossy to a matt or semi-matt finish. Of course, the central part of the cup is the relief print of the image of Veronica, half serpent and half woman, which recreates the myth of Veronica of Kamnik. The cup is 11 cm high and 9 cm in diameter.

Veronica's Cup

Veronica's Cup depicts the myth of Veronica of Kamnik. The myth says that Count Veronica lived above Kamnik. She refused the request of the priests to donate money for the church. She cursed herself and decided to turn into a snake. The curse was fulfilled. Veronica, half woman, half snake, is still lying at the foot of the Little Castle above Kamnik, waiting for a saviour.

The figure of Veronika, half woman, half snake, is embossed on a handmade black stoneware cup. The details are accentuated by the iridescent glaze in different shades of colour. This makes each Veronika cup a special one-off, a souvenir that is at the same time a perfectly usable object. It can be used to drink tea or any other beverage.
